Sunday Snippet - Resting in the Promises of God

Do you feel utterly helpless and in the depths of despair? Do your circumstances and relationships overwhelm your very soul and spirit?

I find life’s burdens to be a constant and never-ending challenge that brings me down into the depths of darkness – often. So much so, that my thoughts go everywhere they shouldn’t, even to the point of imagining myself becoming a nun and hiding away in some monastery – like when Maria goes back to the Abbey into seclusion when Captain von Trapp decided to marry Baroness Schraeder.

Hiding away from the world and its many problems is not what the LORD wants us to do, tempting as it may be. But taking a vacation to get away for refreshment and relaxation is one way to gain a bit of release from life’s constraints.

Resting in the LORD’s promises and looking to Him for the working out of our woes is what He requires us to do, as His children. Praying and reading His word is the answer. It may take days, months, many, many months, or years.

Is this disheartening? Yes. But my faith in the LORD requires me to be steadfast, unmoving, and unshakeable.

Read the following verses and keep them in your heart!

Psalm 88: 1-5

O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: 2. Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; 3. For my soul is full of troubles and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. 4. I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: 5. Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.

Psalm 91:1-4

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Psalm 23:1-3

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Rest in these words of comfort and hope!
