I'm All About Bag Making and Then Some!

My bedroom in Canada/PEI amassed with carpet bags!

Hello everyone!

I'm doing some catch-up work today to showcase the barrel/duffel bag I made for my youngest granddaughter, Charlotte, to hold her "Rapunzel" doll. If you missed that doll post, you can read and see it HERE.

I had never made this type of bag before. So it was a bit of a challenge in some respects. But it also came out surprisingly well. Though I will say this - I'm still not in the mood to make more or to make any to sell!

The pattern I used - The Saturday Duffle- by Melissa Sewing Patterns - came in three sizes. I made the 19-inch (large) size so Charlotte's doll would fit in perfectly and have room for accessories. [Just so you know I didn't make a spelling error with the pattern name. She spells the word "duffel" as "duffle."]

I don't have any step-by-step photos of the whole process, but here you see me stitching on the ends of the bag with lots of clips! A bit tedious! The green and white floral fabric is the bag lining. My 1948 221 Singer Featherweight Sewing machine handles all my bag sewing - and then some!

Here's the inside complete with zipper.

Turned right side out with pink webbing straps stitched to the outer fabric. The bag was also interfaced with flex foam interfacing to provide structure and stability. It can stand on its own within nothing inside.

See these little pillows? My daughter, Melody, made those in her younger days growing up. I still saved them all these past decades and included them with the bag so Charlotte's doll, Rapunzel, could have some pillows for sleeping and Charlotte could enjoy having her mom's one and only sewing project! (smile)

The finished project! I found the cutest cherry key chain to adorn Charlotte's duffel bag.

The colors of the fabric, webbing and pom pom cherries are so beautiful! Don't you think?

If you're a new reader of my blog and want to see more of what I make to sell, please check out my Etsy shop HERE or scroll to the top of my site for the link.

I have a bit more catching up to do with MORE bag posts! And more of the clothing I've been sewing up for myself. So, stayed tune!
